The canoe club is located at the end of a tarmac and stone track from a gate next to the bridge in Darley Abbey.
There is limited car parking so we would appreciate it if you could car share, cycle or walk to the venue.
The track is about 1/4 mile long, there is parking on the other side of the river at Darley's restaurant. There is also on street parking near the gate, but the road is narrow, so please be extra careful when parking that you do not cause problems for other road users.
Access to the river is from a floating platform with steps into the water, please leave footwear neatly on this platform. The river is slow flowing, there will be small buoys deployed to mark a course, one downstream and three or four upstream. The downstream buoy is visible from the platform, this and the first upstream buoy (also visible from the platform) will be used if there is any coaching and can be used as a small loop for acclimatisation and for novices. We will aim for a full lap to be around 1 Km.
There are changing rooms, with showers that we can use, also toilets. The stone path may have glass on it, the site once housed a rubbish tip, and the grass has nettles. Therefore footwear is required on land.
£4 - Club Members, Juniors & Students with ID
£5 - Non members

We need at least three people to marshal the venue - signing in, spotting & checking swimmers in & out of the water plus a canoeist, we are able to borrow a Canadian (open) canoe for each session, so this could be manned by two people.
Club members who are able to help out with OW Safety please sign up via the website - click here.
For any non-members who would like to help out please email email@example.com
For every session you help out at you will get a free swim
The Club provides coached OW sessions for its members. Details of these can be found in the Club calendar.
To assist the coaches all swimmers in these sessions should wear white swim hats - all other swimmers should wer brightly coloured swim hats except white.
Coached sessions are focused around the buoy closest to entry/exit point and only swimmers in coached sessions are allowed to use the coaching buoy (non orange).
