Parking

Parking is free on the Barton Marina site.  The best place to park is in the small car park next to the lake but this can get very busy so the larger car park adjacent to the Marina complex can be used.

If you have bikes on the roof of the car please note there is a height restriction on the entry to the small car park.

Lake

We swim in the small lake at Barton Marina.  The lake is clean and calm and follows a 500m buoy marked course anticlockwise around the island.  The lake is shallow around the edges although deeper by the island.  If necessary the water can be exited  from most of the shoreline and is therefore ideal for novice OW swimmers. Safety cover is provided on both sides of the lake.

Site Facilities

There are no changing facilities at Barton Marina. If you get changed by your car please respect that this site is open to the general public. There will be a shelter in which you can leave your kit in and provide some privacy in which to get changed. Any belongings are left at your own risk.

There are some toilets available for public use at the far end of the Marina Complex.

Fees

£3 - Club Members, Juniors & Students with ID

£5 - Non members

Food & Drink

Within the Marina Complex there are several places to eat and drink.  For more information please visit the Marina website. http://www.bartonmarina.co.uk/

 Saftey Marshals

For every session we need a minimum of two marshals. One of these will act as the Water Safety Officer to check people in and out of the water and the other will need to be located on the other side of the island and act as Safety Marshal.

Marshalling is split into two shifts per session, the first shift includes set-up time and second shift includes packing away:

  • Wednesday 17:30-18:30 and 18:30-19:45
  • Saturday 08:15-09:30 and 09:30-10:45

Club members who are able to help out with OW Safety please sign up via the website - click here.

For any non-members who would like to help out please email openwater@derbytriathlonclub.co.uk

For every session you help out at you will get a free swim

 Coached Sessions

The Club provides coached OW sessions for its members. Details of these can be found in the Club calendar.

To assist the coaches all swimmers in these sessions should wear white swim hats - all other swimmers should wer brightly coloured swim hats except white.

Coached sessions are focused around the buoy closest to entry/exit point and only swimmers in coached sessions are allowed to use the coaching buoy (non orange).
