Strong Derby showing in inaugural Foremark Hall Triathlon by Kieran Saxon

A large contingent of Derby Triathlon Club members invaded the superbly manicured grounds of Foremark Hall Preparatory School on Sunday 10th July for a very local race followed by a club barbeque.   Impressive performances from the usual suspects were rewarded with a large smattering of age-category placing prizes.

In general this was a well organised event, and I found the marshals friendly and knowledgeable.   Some of the Derby crew found the transition area a little confusing, myself included (went to the wrong exit with my bike!) [did you walk through transition first?] but these were minor grumbles.  The speedy pool section was expertly managed by Dave Nelson before the bike section, which held few surprises for most in DTC , as it was based largely on the Tuesday time-trial course with its familiar “undulating” multi-hills mid-section.  The run was 3 laps round the beautiful Foremark Hall’s Grounds and had an interesting walking section where you had a choice between some steep steps or a steep, tree-root infested slope.

There was some good competition towards the top of the rankings, so well done to the following who placed  (1st to 3rd) in their categories.

Age group placings

Matt Dewis

Jake Manning

Naomi Warr

Melanie Bridgen

Julie Coulbert

Ken Hardy

A particular well done to first time Triathlete Julie Coulbert, who won her age group at the first attempt.  A beaming Julie said “I wasn’t going to attend but everyone told me to in the pub on Thursday (after the Summer Series) so I decided to enter, and I’m so glad I did”. Excellent effort,  very few people can say they have won every race they have entered.

For those who didn’t place, there were some strong performances and the general feeling was people enjoyed the race and the day. It was fantastic to see so many familiar faces from the club.   Julie put together a BBQ for all those racing and supporting from DTC and their families, and the weather held perfectly to make this a very enjoyable and social way to round off a race. So a massive, massive thanks to Julie, Chris "Flipping Burgers" Redding, Naomi (and Tim), Hayden, Rob , and Simon who all helped with the BBQ logistics.
