In a club run by volunteers where we are all more keen to train, compete, coach and host events etc. than to do lots of admin and accounts, I see my role as chairman is to provide direction through a series of nudges on the tiller via the club committee and through general support of those who do the hard work. Obviously making decisions promptly on your behalf, representing the club officially, predicting the club's requirements, attempting to meet people's expectations and aspirations, listening to gripes and suggestions, and a degree of leadership is part of it too, but so is having fun along the way!
Derby Triathlon Club Committee
Chairman - Chris Nicoll
Secretary - Ruth Enion
Treaurer - Nick Morris
Vice Chairman - Liz Burgess
I have dabbled in many sports all of my life, however I was always too scared to try triathlon. Everyone looked really fit and had fancy kit that I didn't really understand (and probably still don't!). In 2012, I finally took the plunge and joined DTC, did my first triathlon (on my hybrid bike, swimming breast stroke) and was hooked! I so wish I had started earlier as I have learnt and improved so much over the past 3 years whilst keeping fit and having fun. I would like to share the joy I get from triathlon with others, so I see my role on the committee as a voice for the members of DTC, to ensure that we aim to deliver what you want from your club
Membership Secretary - Lindsey Appleby
From riding and competing with horses for most of my life I had a mid-life crisis in 2011 and did my first sprint triathlon! I don’t come from any athletic background at all so it has been a massive learning curve and quite life changing. What a fantastic group of people triathletes are, I have learnt so much and made many new friend and now can’t imagine my life without it. It is certainly addictive, I don’t aspire to beat anyone but myself and I have a massive love for middle distance races. For me the social side of the sport is as important as the racing so as membership secretary and part of the social team I’m here to help you enjoy your journey through triathlon. Contact me with any membership queries.
Junior Point of Contact - Clive Holland
As Junior Point of Contact (JPC) I represent the interests of the Club’s juniors on the committee. If any member or parent of a junior member wishes anything discussed at a committee meeting, then send it to me and I will ensure the matter is discussed.
I have been on the committee since November 2012 and have previously been Chair, Vice-chair and Secretary.
Extra to my role as JPC I am also the clubs designated event co-ordinator and the Race Director for the Derby Junior Triathlon.
Welfare Officer - Paul Webster
My role is to ensure the safety of children , young people and vulnerable adults at Derby Tri. I am available 24/7 on 07812 300183. Just ring me if you feel you need advice support and help (not with training) but personal issues whilst taking part in Derby Tri training and events.
Coaching Coordinator - Chris Keegan
I first got into triathlon after being injured from running, and being invited down to Derby Tri from someone at the running club. That was nearly 10 years ago and I immediately got the bug for triathlon. I love the variety of the sport but there's not enough hours in the day to fit it all in.
I've only ever done sprint distance triathlons after my only Olympic distance was turned into an aquathlon because of fog. I'm now more interested in the coaching and social side of triathlon.
I've always been a runner from school age, and represented Derbyshire and Derby AC in many events.
I started working in the leisure industry over 20 years ago, gaining gym qualifications, training lifeguards in CPR , first aid etc. I then got into swim teaching and in which I currently work full time at Moorways. I enjoy teaching all ages and abilities and seeing people get engaged in the learning process and as a result watching them improve. I enjoy my job that much I have additionally set up my own swim business teaching and coaching adults and juniors in groups or 121s.
I've been coaching triathlon about 3 years, and coach adult and juniors. I like seeing the novices come into the sport and how much enthusiasm they have when they get bit by thetriathlon bug, like I was all those years ago.
Committee Member - Chris Redding
I have been involved in Triathlon for many years having first raced in 1986 as an active member of Triathlon UCW (Aberystwyth University). I have made significant efforts to improve my ability in the sport in recent years. I have raced at all distances from Sprint to Ironman having most recently worked hard to qualify as a member of the British Triathlon Age Group Team, competing at world level in duathlon during 2015. My personal goals for the future are to achieve greater success at international level in my age group, whilst wishing to continue to enjoy the sport. As far as DTC goes, I will be doing my best to continue the excellent work done by Paul & Nicole Stewart in running the Summer Series over recent years. I will strive to build on the existing format of competitive but friendly club racing but try to develop the race series so that it gives athletes at all levels a more inclusive competitive experience.
Committee Member - Michael ODoherty
This will be the start of my second year on the committee as a regular member (no exact responsibilities) I was late to the world of Triathlon having been a runner all of my life and a late start into the world of swimming and cycling, once I brought it all together I was hooked and thoroughly enjoy all aspects of the sport particularly racing from everything from super sprint to 70.3. Keen to promote all aspects of the sport and great to see more interest into the club. It has a very good social scene and a great bunch of people taking part. Would like to see more people break through and dispense with the myth that this is an elite sport as most people will say "once they have tried it they are Tri'ers for life" If anyone is new to the sport and needs a little encouragement or some basic guidance, more than happy to help.
